Involves the development of studies concerning the distribution of events connected to health in populations, the critical analysis and evaluation of their determinants (physical, biological, social, cultural and behavioral factors) and the application of the knowledge produced in concrete actions that seek the formulation of policies, planning and administrative interventions that can address health problems.
Research Projects
Health policies, planning, systems evaluation, services and programs

Health of specific population groups
Analyzes health problems in specific groups (children, adolescents, women and the elderly) across a diverse range of interests (oral health, reproductive health, mental health, violence, mortality by external causes). The project investigates the health indicators of these specific groups in order to identify determining factors for the observed conditions and evaluate assistance offered. It also seeks to study the epidemiological aspects of public health problems with a focus on violence affecting children and adolescents, as well as health problems among groups considered to be in a situation of vulnerability due to social determinations, such as descendants of escaped slaves, the black population, the homeless, indigenous groups, LGBTT, albinos, and people deprived of their liberty.

Epidemiology of Oral Health
Aims to promote the use of epidemiology in the field of oral health in order to improve the population´s oral health condition, through the investigation of common oral diseases and their risk factors and determinants, as well as their connection with systemic diseases and conditions. It also seeks, using epidemiological surveys, to supply data that may contribute to the planning, administration and evaluation of oral health actions.
